AET will select a shipyard to build the two dual-fueled tankers. The vessels will be delivered to PTT in the fourth quarter of 2025 and the first quarter of 2026 for long-term charters.

The duo sees use of green ammonia powered vessels as one of the pathways to achieve the decarbonisation goals.

Green ammonia is considered to be a viable source of sustainable energy that can help to decarbonise the shipping industry.

Earlier this month, Finnish shipping company Meriaura, technology firm Wärtsilä and green ammonia start-up Green NortH2 Energy teamed up to build a cargo vessel that can run on green ammonia.

In August, Japanese engineering firm Mitsubishi and power generation company JERA announced their intentions to supply green electricity and build an ammonia bunkering terminal in Singapore.
