Alternative fuel-ready means that these vessels are not initially equipped to run on alternative fuels like LNG, ammonia and methanol but are designed with provisions for the future installation of fuel tanks and engines to accommodate them.
The vessels, Tabit and Rigel, are IMO II/III oil and chemical tankers, equipped with scrubbers and capable of carrying up to six fully segregated grades of cargo.
Tabit has been chartered to South Korean shipping company HMM for five years, while Rigel is on a five-year charter with US-based logistics firm Global Horizon Shipping.
