The company has already delivered two test fuel supply systems for Swiss engine designer Winterthur Gas & Diesel’s (WinGD) ammonia-capable engines.
The system includes a fuel valve train and a vent treatment system, according to Alfa Laval. The two components are used to control the flow of fuel from storage tanks to the engine.
The delivery to WinGD demonstrates the company's “technological readiness” to use ammonia as a fuel on ships, said Sameer Kalra, marine division president at Alfa Laval.
Alfa Laval and WinGD are working with South Korea's K Shipbuilding to build an ammonia-capable tanker that will also be equipped with an ammonia dual-fuel boiler system.
