The vessel will be equipped with a four-stroke ammonia engine from Wärtsilä. It will be able to run on ammonia along with conventional fuels, classification society RINA said.
Under the agreement, Gas and Heat will develop cargo handling system for the vessel and RINA will classify the concept and design of the newbuild.
“Green ammonia has great potential to play an important role in the strategies set by IMO and EU, which will need innovative bunkering vessels to support the logistics and supply of green ammonia,” Giuseppe Zagaria, marine south-west technical director at RINA said.
