Anemoi Marine installs rotor sails on an ore carrier

UK-based rotor sail manufacturer Anemoi Marine Technologies has completed the installation of five rotor sails on the very large ore carrier (VLOC) Sohar Max.

The vessel was retrofitted with five 35-meter-high rotor sails at the COSCO Zhoushan shipyard in China, making it the largest vessel to adopt wind propulsion technology, according to Anemoi.

Owned by Omani shipping company Asyad and chartered by Brazilian mining firm Vale, the vessel recently completed a voyage to Tubarão, Brazil. The rotor sails were tested during this voyage. Testing will continue on future voyages, the company said.
