AL Group-owned shipping firm teamed up with the classification society American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) for the study. They will investigate the possibility of converting the diesel fuel supply system of upcoming vessels to a methanol fuel supply.
The study will examine up to eight ultramax bulk carriers ordered by AL Group at the New Hantong Shipyard.
“Converting vessel propulsion systems to take advantage of the decarbonization potential afforded by methanol is going to be an important part of the industry’s green energy transition,” said ABS president John McDonald.
