Avenir’s LNG tanker Avenir Aspiration loaded up on LNG at the Murgardos terminal in Spain before shipping it to the Finnish port. Avenir says another of its LNG tankers, the Avenir Ascension, is due to make a second LNG cargo delivery to the Hamina terminal in a few days.
Notably, Hamina LNG’s new terminal commenced commercial operations at the beginning of October. LNG cargoes delivered to the Hamina terminal can be regasified and injected into Finland's gas pipeline network with a daily capacity of 4,800 MWh. This gas can then be used for power generation, heating and other outlets.
But Hamina also has a storage capacity of 30,000 cbm of LNG. Hamina has said it will supply bunkers to LNG-powered ships, and LNG stored in onshore tanks could be supplied to ships as bunkers later.
Avenir aims to become a major supplier of LNG across Europe. The company has been pursuing deals towards that end.
Among the flurry of developments, the company partnered with Croatian gas supplier Prvo Plinarsko Društvo (PPD) to supply LNG in northern Italian ports and eastern European countries. It has also recently said it intends to build an LNG and bioLNG terminal in the Port of Oxelösund in Sweden by 2025.
