The 87-metre-long vessel is fitted with a battery system offering 14 megawatt-hours (MWh) of energy storage capacity. It is scheduled to begin operating between Tarifa, Spain and Tangier, Morocco, in summer 2027.
A second ferry, which is currently under construction, is expected to join the fleet later that year. Together, the two vessels will operate along the first green corridor between Spain and Morocco.
Baleària has not disclosed the name of the newly launched vessel or provided further technical details.
The project, which includes building both ferries and electrifying the ports of Tarifa and Tangier City, involves an investment of more than €200 million (around $223 million).
