Belgian Trading & Bunkering gets ISCC-EU certification for its biofuels

Marine fuel supplier Belgian Trading & Bunkering (BTB) received International Sustainability and Carbon Certification EU (ISCC-EU) for its biofuel bunker blends.

ISCC is a global certification system that sets standards for the sustainable production, sourcing and trade of all kinds of bio-based feedstocks and biofuels.

The ISCC-EU certification provides an assurance that the biofuel blends supplied by BTB are sustainably produced from biomass and meet the legal requirements of the EU’s Renewable Energy Directive, the company said in a social media post.

IMO's interim guidance on biofuel specifies that marine biofuels must be accredited by ISCC or its equivalent to ensure sustainability.

In addition, they should provide greenhouse gas (GHG) reductions of at least 65% over fossil oil to qualify as sustainable alternative fuels, said the IMO.
