The two 210,000-dwt dual-fuel vessels will be able to run on both ammonia and conventional marine fuels.
However, the company has not disclosed the expected delivery dates for the ordered vessels.
“Ammonia is a promising zero-carbon fuel for the future of the shipping industry,” Berge Bulk’s chief technical officer Paolo Tonon says.
This month, Singapore-based Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS) ordered four 210,000-dwt ammonia dual-fuel bulk carriers from CSSC Beihai Shipbuilding. In December, Belgian shipping firm Euronav exercised its option to order an ammonia dual-fuel VLCC from China, taking its ammonia dual-fuel VLCC count to three.
