Each vessel will feature two 24-metre rotor sails supplied by Finnish cleantech company Norsepower.
The Flettner rotors use the Magnus effect to generate air pressure and create a spinning motion. Under favourable wind conditions, the rotor sails allow the main engine to throttle back, reducing fuel consumption while maintaining speed.
Built by Jiangsu SOHO Marine Heavy Industry in China, the vessels will be delivered with the rotor sails pre-installed. The first vessel is set to launch by the end of 2025.
Both vessels will operate along the Norwegian coast, where wind conditions tend to be favourable, according to Norsepower.
