LNG bunker supplier Rohe Solutions will supply liquefied biogas (bio-LNG) to LNG-powered ships from the Hamina LNG terminal at Hamina port. Port of HaminaKotka is a seaport located in South-Eastern Finland.
Rohe Solutions said it will begin liquefying biogas from the grid at the Hamina LNG terminal in 2024, with pilot deliveries starting after that.
Liquefied biomethane or bio-LNG, can function as a drop-in fuel in LNG, similar to the way biofuels have been blended with MGO or VLSFO in recent trials. This means that vessels capable of running on LNG will not need modifications to run on pure LBM or LBM-LNG blends.
Bio-LNG demand is growing rapidly, but Finnish production is still limited and new bio-LNG projects are still in their infancy, Rohe Solutions noted.
“By liquefying biogas from the [Hamina LNG terminal] grid, we will be able to offer Bio-LNG to the market before the planned biogas production plant projects are completed,” Sanna Kokkonen, chief executive of Rohe Solutions said.
