Bunker One to extend trials of fuel additive on multiple vessels

Bunker One has launched an extended six-month trial of a fuel additive across a range of vessels, after the initial trials revealed fuel savings when used with conventional marine fuels.

The move comes as part of a joint supply and marketing agreement between Bunker One and Purify Fuel.  

The fuel additive, produced by Purify Fuel, initially underwent successful trials in early 2023.

The initial trials revealed that the additive led to fuel savings of 6.4% when used with MGO and 5.9% with VLSFO. Following this, Bunker One has extended the fuel additive testing for another six months.   

According to Purify Fuel, the trial with the fuel additive has demonstrated a 5-8% improvement in fuel efficiency without any need for engine modifications.
