Capital takes delivery of LNG-ready tanker

Geek ship operator Capital Ship Management has taken delivery of a chemical/product medium range (MR) tanker that is LNG-ready.

M/T Alkiviadis, a 50,000-dwt chemical/product MR tanker, is the first of six LNG-ready ships to be delivered to Capital Ship Management. The vessel has been built by Hyundai Vietnam Shipyard and is wind-assist and shore power-ready.

LNG-ready vessels have a ship design that has been prepared or “ready” for using LNG as a fuel in the future, while LNG-fuelled ones can consume LNG as fuel now.

The global LNG-fuelled fleet currently stands at 361 vessels, with another 182 expected to join this year, according to classification society DNV estimates.

As per Clarksons Research, LNG dominated the order book in 2022 with 397 dual-fuel LNG newbuilds and 31 LNG-ready vessels.
