Carnot was recently awarded a £2.3 million ($2.76 million) grant from the UK government for its design and development of a 50kW Hydrogen auxiliary engine demonstrator. Following the design and simulation testing of the engine, it will undergo real-world testing.
The company plans to use one of Carisbrooke Shipping’s K-Class cargo vessels for a 40-day sea trial in early 2025.
The aim of the sea trials is to test if the engine is capable to run on zero-emission fuels like green hydrogen. Carnot also plans to develop a 1-10 mw hydrogen engine in the future, based on outcomes from its partnership with Carisbrooke.
