“As more shipping companies are targeting a goal of net-zero emissions, LNG is going to play a critical role in providing a feasible pathway to that target,” says Ravi Sekhon, director of engineering and sustainability at Centerline Logistics.

The barge will chart US and international waters. And is expected to start service in 2024.

In March last year, marine fuels transporter Centreline started the ‘Visionary Fuels’ initiative by forming an alternative fuels working group comprising industry peers. The initiative aims to develop marine transport equipmenmt, technologies and standards to cut the carbon footprint of vessels transiting through US ports and harbours.

“We are eager to collaborate with Vard to refine the barge design over the next few months and begin construction soon thereafter,” says Rachael Haykin, business development lead at Visionary Fuels.
