Green methanol produced by Cepsa will be stored at Evos’ storage facilities in Algeciras and Rotterdam. It also has the option to store green ammonia at Evos’ facility in Algeciras.
The green methanol will be available for shipping and other industries.
“The alliance… facilitates the logistics for the transport of these products derived from green hydrogen between strategic ports in Spain and the Netherlands,” the energy company added.
Cepsa seeks to scale up green methanol production. It has teamed up with C2X to develop a green methanol plant in Spain's Huelva with an annual production of 300,000 mt. A final investment decision for the green methanol production facility is anticipated in 2025.
“This alliance with Evos provides crucial storage infrastructure that will enable the flow of green methanol produced in southern Spain to northern Europe,” Cepsa's chief executive Maarten Wetselaar said.
The company already has an alliance with the Port of Rotterdam to establish a green hydrogen corridor from the Port of Algeciras.
