The vessel can operate on both methanol and conventional marine fuels.

It will be deployed on the company's service route between Asia and the Red Sea, calling at Shanghai, Qingdao, Ningbo, Shekou, Nansha and Singapore before heading to Djibouti, Jeddah, Ain Sukhna in Egypt and Aqaba in Jordan.

CMA CGM said the vessel will support its goal of reaching net zero carbon emissions by 2050.

These six ships are part of CMA CGM’s planned fleet of 24 methanol-capable vessels. The rest are 12 newbuilds of 13,000 TEU, and six 9,300 TEU container ships being converted to dual-fuel engines that can run on methanol.

Earlier this month, the company took delivery of CMA CGM Gold, the fifth in the series of 13,000 TEU methanol-capable ships.
