Haropa Port, located along France’s Seine Axis, brings together the ports of Le Havre, Rouen and Paris.

The plant will produce around 7,000 mt/year of biomethane from biogas generated through the anaerobic digestion of agricultural and food waste.

Biomethane must be liquefied before it can be used as a marine fuel, either in its pure form or blended with fossil LNG.

Production is expected to begin in 2029, CMA CGM said. The shipping company plans to offtake the entire output to fuel its growing LNG dual-fuel fleet.

CMA CGM plans to expand its LNG dual-fuel fleet to 81 vessels by the end of this year. It expects its combined fleet of LNG- and methanol-capable vessels to reach 208 by 2030.
