Global bunker supplier Vitol Bunkers supplied 2,000 mt of UCOME-based B24 biofuel stem to COSCO’s 155,000-dwt containership, M/V CSCL Venus.

The B24 marine biofuel comprised a blend of 24% used cooking oil methyl ester (UCOME) and 76% conventional marine fuels.

Bunker supplier Peninsula was also involved in the biofuel delivery process. The supplier’s Shanghai and Singapore trading teams combined to arrange the delivery of the biofuel stem.

The delivered biofuel will provide the vessel “minimum GHG savings of over 1,200 tons of CO2 equivalent,” Peninsula claims.

“Biofuel supply volumes are naturally increasing due to the regulatory environment,” Peninsula’s head of alternative fuels and sustainability Nacho de Miguel says.
