The industrial chain cooperation project will look over the production, transportation, bunkering and certification of green methanol for ships, the China-based shipping company said.

Chinese container shipping company COSCO Shipping is developing this green methanol industrial chain in collaboration with State Power Investment Corporation Limited (SPIC), Shanghai International Port Group (SIPG) and China Certification & Inspection Group (CCIC).
“A green methanol industrial chain is not only necessary for shipping companies to align with the new trend of green, low-carbon, and intelligent shipping but also to offer customers sustainable and eco-friendly global supply chain logistics services,” COSCO said.
COSCO and its partners plan to produce the first batch of green methanol in China.
The company has put in an order for 12 methanol-powered dual-fuel container ships, each with a capacity of 24,000 TEU.
COSCO Shipping further added that it aims to establish a green methanol industrial chain that “meets both domestic and foreign green certification standards.”
