The 16,000 TEU COSCO Shipping Yangpu is the first in a new series of methanol-capable container ships, built by compatriot shipyard COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry Yangzhou.
The vessel is equipped with an 11,000 cbm methanol storage tank and is capable of completing a one-way voyage from the Far East and the US East Coast on methanol without refueling, COSCO Shipping said.
It features the “first homegrown methanol dual-fuel engine" and a methanol dual-fuel marine boiler, the company said. All the equipment were provided by China State Shipbuilding Corporation.
