The Cosco Panama is a 16,000 TEU container ship capable of running on both methanol and conventional marine fuels. It follows the delivery of COSCO’s first vessel of this class last month.
The vessel is fitted with an 11,000-cbm methanol storage tank, which COSCO says allows it to complete a one-way voyage between the Far East and the US East Coast on methanol without the need to refuel.
China State Shipbuilding Corporation supplied the vessel's main engine, boilers and generator, all of which are methanol-capable.
