DNV greenlights Samsung Heavy Industries’ liquefied hydrogen carrier design

Classification society DNV has approved a new liquefied hydrogen (LH2) carrier design developed by South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI).

The 80,000 cbm carrier features spherical tanks with reinforced structures to reduce heat transfer and limit cargo losses from boil-off gas (BOG) during the transport of hydrogen.
The design uses advanced materials and technology to ensure greater safety, efficiency and reliability under extreme cryogenic conditions, according to DNV.
