DP World plans shore power at Constanța port

Logistics firm DP World aims to install a shore power connection at its container terminal in the Port of Constanța, Romania.

The Port of Constanța is a deep-sea port on the western coast of the Black Sea, providing a direct link between trade routes from Asia and the Suez Canal and Central and Eastern Europe.

DP World has not disclosed a timeline for the project but said the shore power connection will form part of a broader electrification programme aimed at reducing more than 6,000 mt/year of CO2 emissions at its terminal.

It has secured €25 million ($28 million) in loan financing from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, a €19.7 million ($22 million) grant under the EU's Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Facility and €7.5 million ($8.5 million) in funding through Romania's Transport Programme 2021–2027 to support the overall electrification.
