The project involves converting two fossil-fuelled roll-on/roll-off passenger (RoPax) ferries to run on full electric propulsion. The battery systems are expected to be delivered by the second half of 2025.

Echandia announced that this is their largest order to date, both in terms of value and system size.

“We are seeing a clear trend towards more and larger orders for converting ferries from fossil fuel to electric propulsion,” Echandia's chief executive Fredrik Hellström said.

Earlier this month, Echandia was contracted by another Swedish ferry company, Öresundslinjen, to supply a battery system for the conversion of M/S Hamlet from fossil marine fuel-powered to fully electric.
