EPS expands Sulnox fuel additive use under new four-year deal

Singapore-headquartered Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS) has entered into a four-year agreement with London-based Sulnox to broaden the use of the latter's fuel additive across its fleet.

Fuel additives are chemical compounds blended into fuel to improve efficiency, enhance performance and help keep engines clean. The additive improves combustion, helping reduce fuel consumption and emissions while protecting engines. It can be used with any liquid hydrocarbon fuel and does not require vessel retrofits, according to Sulnox.

Under the agreement, deployment of the additive will expand from around 30 vessels to more than 50 vessels. The contract includes the supply of approximately 1.2 million litres of fuel additive over the four-year period.

The deal follows more than two years of testing and operational use across a variety of vessel classes, including container ships, bulk carriers, tankers and vehicle carriers. During this period, EPS recorded fuel savings of 3–5%, according to Sulnox.

EPS has progressively increased the use of the additive across its fleet since partnering with Sulnox.

“Across different vessel segments and fuel types, we have observed consistent improvements in fuel performance, engine cleanliness and operational efficiency,” EPS’ technical director Sachin Saharawat said.
