ESL Shipping orders four methanol-capable ships from China

Construction has begun on the first of four methanol-capable vessels ordered by UAE-headquartered shipping company ESL Shipping.

The 17,000-dwt vessels are being built at China Merchants Jinling Shipyard in Nanjing, China, and will be capable of operating on both methanol and conventional marine fuels. They will also be equipped with shore power connections.
The first vessel is slated for delivery in the third quarter of 2027, while the fourth is expected to be handed over in the first half of 2028.
ESL Shipping has not disclosed additional details about the vessels, including their intended deployment or trading routes.
