The joint climate action prioritises reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and pollution from the shipping industry as one of its key objectives.

It will work to accelerate the clean energy transition with a "focus on (development of) hydrogen and offshore renewable energy," the Commission says.

EC and Norway signed the Green Alliance pact in Brussels yesterday as part of the EU's Green Deal Industry Agreement. According to EC President Ursula von der Leyen, it is the first Green Alliance in Europe, and the second of its kind after the EU's alliance with Japan.

The EU would work to expand the Green Alliance worldwide, executive vice-president for the European Green Deal Frans Timmermans said.
