US floating LNG infrastructure company Excelerate Energy will supply up to 16 trillion Btu/year of LNG, or around 307,000 mt/year, to AxDo Bahamas.
LNG bunker supplier Axpo and the Bahamas-based energy and maritime logistics firm Domicisle LNG formed the joint venture last month to run small-scale LNG and bunker operations in the region.
AxDo will become a customer of the storage and distribution hub Excelerate plans to build near Grand Bahama.
The hub will supply LNG to ships, including cruise ships, as well as to power plants and other buyers in the Bahamas and the wider Caribbean.
The first deliveries are expected next year, using Excelerate’s existing LNG supply and logistics operations in Jamaica.
In 2028, Excelerate plans to deploy a floating storage unit (FSU) near Grand Bahama. The FSU will serve as the hub’s main storage and distribution terminal.
LNG bunker activity is picking up across the Caribbean. Roatán in Honduras saw its first ship-to-ship LNG bunkering in June, and Avenir’s bunker vessel supplied a Royal Caribbean cruise ship in Honduras in August.
