“Hydrogen is currently the most significant driver of industrial change, both in Finland and abroad. The confirmed objective will consolidate Finland’s position in the hydrogen economy globally and provide support to Finnish operators and investments in the hydrogen sector,” Finland’s minister of economic affairs Mika Lintila says.

“We want to manufacture hydrogen and electrofuels for the needs of the Finnish industry, transport and energy system, above all,” Lintila adds.

Green electrofuels or e-fuels are manufactured by treating combining carbon dioxide with hydrogen produced with renewable electricity.

New wind power capacity is being installed in Finland to boost green hydrogen production capacity, the government says.

“Finland's competitive advantages are the predictability of the operating environment, the smoothness of permit procedures and land use planning,” the government says in a statement.

Finland seeks to form a national hydrogen strategy, and its newly approved hydrogen resolution follows a government policy announced during a 2021 budget session.
