The RoPax vessel, Finnsirius, is “equipped with enormous high-powered battery banks and [features to use] onshore power supply” to reduce emissions while in port. It is also equipped with exhaust gas abatement and waste heat recovery systems to cut emissions.
The second vessel, Finncanopus, is scheduled to be delivered by the end of this year. Both vessels have been ordered from Chinese shipbuilder China Merchants Jinling Shipyard.
Finnsirius will be deployed on the Naantali–Långnäs–Kapellskär route connecting Finland and Sweden from September.
The two new vessels are part of Finnlines’ €500 million ($561 million) fleet upgradation plan, which focuses on curbing emissions from vessels.
