FlyTahoe, Candela to launch fully electric ferry in US

US-based ferry operator FlyTahoe has collaborated with Swedish boat manufacturer Candela to introduce a fully electric hydrofoil vessel to Lake Tahoe in the US.

Although the immediate impact that this small-scale electric vessel will have on global greenhouse gas emissions might be limited, the vessel holds significance as it provides crucial technical and operational insights that can inform the development of larger-scale electric vessels in the future.

A hydrofoil vessel uses wing-like structures (hydrofoils) beneath its hull to lift it out of the water at high speeds, reducing drag and energy consumption.

The P-12, an all-electric passenger ferry, will soon link the northern and southern shores of Lake Tahoe. This follows its successful debut in Stockholm last month.
