The 210,000-dwt ore carrier will feature an ammonia dual-fuel engine, enabling it to operate on both ammonia and conventional marine fuels. The ship is under construction at China’s Qingdao Beihai Shipyard and is scheduled for delivery by the end of 2026.
Once delivered, it will be used to transport iron ore from Pilbara, Australia to China and other destinations.
Meanwhile, Fortescue’s another ammonia-capable vessel, Green Pioneer, has been docked in London since early March and is preparing to embark on a global port tour to demonstrate its ability to run dual-fuel engines using ammonia.
