The project will allow ships moored in the port to use power from the quays and avoid onboard diesel engines. The move is expected to reduce emissions from port operations.

The port will house three power supply systems at three different quays with converters and transformers. These will help to adapt the voltage and frequency of power required by incoming ships.

The system is expected to be commissioned by November this year.

According to Nidec ASI’s chairman and chief executive Dominique Llonch, shore power has great potential to be used in port operations such as the movement of containers and the automation of cranes.

In addition to this project, Nidec ASI has recently been awarded two shore power projects in the Italian ports of Genoa and Savona.
