The new tanker, Marta Cosulich, is an IMO type 2 chemical tanker that is designed for transporting moderately hazardous chemicals according to International Maritime Organisation (IMO) standards. It has been built by China’s Zhejiang Shenzhou Sunshine Heavy Industry.
The Marta Cosulich will deliver methanol and biofuel blends up to B100 (100% biofuel), including the most common B24 and B30 biofuel blend ratios.
Most of the bunker vessels currently operating in Singapore are classified as ‘oil tankers’ and can only carry biofuel blends with a maximum bio-component of 25%. As a result, suppliers are compelled to offer B24 blends because they are comfortably below the 25% carriage limit, unless they are supplied via chemical tankers.
The vessel is currently en route to Singapore, where it will join Fratelli Cosulich's barge fleet.
