Gib Oil, which is a subsidiary of World Fuel Services, delivered the blend to Seven Seas Splendor together with Dutch biofuel supplier GoodFuels.

The company claims that the fuel can vessels to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

However, the company did not disclose the ratio of biodiesel to oil in the blend - which has big implications for its carbon emission reduction potential.

Shipowners have been increasingly exploring the use of biofuels to reduce near-term carbon emissions as these can be used as drop-in fuels after being blended with conventional fuels.

Earlier this month, GoodFuels bunkered German AIDA Cruises’ cruise ship AIDAprima with 100% biofuel in Rotterdam.
