Gibraltar bunker calls increased in May

The port of Gibraltar received 573 bunker calls in May, registering a 29% increase from April, Gibraltar Port Authority (GPA) figures show.

At 573, the port's bunker calls reached their highest monthly level so far this year.

On a year-on-year basis, Gibraltar’s bunker calls increased by 7% in May.

Gibraltar received 2,076 bunker calls in the first five months of this year, recording a 2% rise from 2,029 ships from the same period last year.   

Meanwhile, 22 cruise ships arrived for bunkers in May, a drop from 41 vessels in April. In May 2024, 15 cruise vessels called for bunkering in Gibraltar.

Bunker fuel demand in Gibraltar usually increases with cruise traffic, which peaks during the summer months from April to September. 

A total of 82 cruise ships called at Gibraltar in the first five months of this year, an increase from 51 in the same period a year ago.
