Golden Island delivers world’s largest ethanol bunker stem in Singapore
Golden Island bunkered a Maersk ship with about 5,000 mt of ISCC-certified bio-ethanol in Singapore's first operation of the kind.

Golden Island’s IMO Type II chemical tanker Golden Centaurus supplied the dual-fuel container ship Maersk Halifax while the ship’s containers were being handled. A mass flow meter (MFM) was used in the operation.
The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) said it was the biggest volume of ethanol ever to be delivered in one bunker operation. The stem was nearly twice as large as the 2,800 mt of bio-ethanol that Repsol delivered to the Antonia Maersk in Barcelona in July.
The operation was announced last week at a bunker conference in Singapore.
The MPA said the operation will provide data and learnings to assess how Singapore’s existing methanol bunker standards could be adapted for ethanol bunkering, and whether existing MFM systems can be used for future ethanol bunker operations.
Before the operation, the companies involved ran a safety workshop. They used their experience in methanol bunkering to train crew members in handling ethanol and responding to emergencies.
