GTT and partner to enhance LNG bunkering vessels performance
French naval engineering company Gaztransport & Technigaz (GTT) and China’s Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding have partnered to enhance the design and performance of LNG bunkering vessels.

The venture aims to enhance operational efficiency and reduce operating costs “by integrating advanced technologies and design improvements,” by increasing the effective pressure in LNG tanks to 1 bar gauge (barg), GTT said.
The current industry standard is set at 0.7 barg. “The partnership will enable a design pressure of 1 barg, leveraging on various approvals already received from Class Societies for this pressure,” the engineering company added.
The project partners aim to optimise other key features like loading LNG at higher temperatures to enable faster delivery and lower use of subcoolers to reduce the vessel’s electrical power consumption.
The new design also aligns with upcoming environmental regulations, including AFNIR recommendations on cold-ironing, by extending LNG holding time, GTT added.
The company said that this partnership will further evaluate the technical feasibility of increasing the design pressure to 2 barg.
