The engine – G30 – utilises a “a low pressure and pre-mixed gas system, and can be operated with gas only from engine start to normal operation.” Meanwhile, the combustion chamber comprises two prechambers “accompanying the moderate swirl similar to two stroke engines.”

The company expects to introduce the methanol-ready engine in 2024.

Hanshin Diesel unveiled the engine design during a presentation at CIMAC Congress in Busan, South Korea last week.

Notably, Hanshin Diesel is part of the Mitsui O.S.K Lines (MOL)-led consortium that plans to build a methanol-fuelled coastal tanker for domestic methanol transportation.
