Hanwha Ocean conducts STS LNG transfer during trials
South Korea’s Hanwha Ocean has successfully carried out a ship-to-ship (STS) transfer of LNG between two vessels during sea trials.

The operation took place between the LNG carriers — Maran Gas Syros and Woodside Jirrubakura.
Traditionally, LNG carriers conducting gas trials load LNG from an onshore terminal and must return any leftover fuel once testing concludes. Hanwha Ocean’s new approach allows the LNG to be transferred directly between vessels at sea, eliminating the need to rely on terminals.
This method not only reduces environmental impact but also helps avoid schedule disruptions often caused by terminal congestion, according to the company.
However, the company has not disclosed additional information about the operation, such as its exact location.
