The filling station will be built at the port’s Container Terminal Tollerort (CTT) and is expected to commence operations this year. The project is a part of HHLA’s Clean Port & Logistics (CPL) innovation cluster where it tests hydrogen-powered equipment that can be used in port operations.
The facility will refuel straddle carriers, empty container stackers, terminal tractor units and trucks with hydrogen to reduce emissions from port operations.
HHLA has commissioned German hydrogen technology provider Linde Engineering to build the facility.
The filling station will provide the required infrastructure “to speed up the transition to emissions-free heavy goods logistics and port operations, and to drive forward the decarbonisation of logistics," head of the HHLA Hydrogen Network Dr Georg Böttner says.
