Höegh Autoliners orders another six LNG dual-fuel vessels

Norwegian shipping firm Höegh Autoliners has ordered six LNG dual-fuel pure car and truck carriers (PCTCs) from China Merchants Heavy Industry in Jiangsu.

The vessels are scheduled for delivery between 2029 and 2031 and will be capable of running on LNG and conventional marine fuels.

They will also carry DNV class notations for future conversion to ammonia and methanol, although Höegh has not disclosed their level of readiness for either fuel.

The company’s existing dual-fuel fleet comprises eight LNG-capable PCTCs either in operation or on order and four ammonia-capable PCTCs scheduled for delivery by 2027, according to its website.

The latest six-vessel order brings the total dual-fuel PCTC fleet to 18, it said.

Höegh also holds options to order another four vessels and has secured shipyard capacity for the construction of four more dual-fuel vessels in the future. If it proceeds with all eight, its fleet could grow to 26 vessels, it said.
