The PCTC Höegh Borealis, with a capacity of 9,100 car equivalent units (CEU), can run on both LNG and conventional marine fuels. It holds class notations from DNV for ammonia and methanol readiness, making it possible to retrofit the vessel for these fuels in the future.

Additionally, it is equipped with solar panels to meet auxiliary electricity needs and has shore-power capability.

Höegh Autoliners has not disclosed where the vessel will be deployed.

Last month, the company took delivery of the first vessel in the series, Höegh Aurora. It expects to take delivery of two PCTCs every six months until mid-2027. Starting in 2027, the company plans to operate the final four of the 12 vessels using green ammonia.
