Thick fog and reduced visibility stopped vessel traffic through the Houston Ship Channel again earlier today.

In recent days, rough weather conditions have impacted both inbound and outbound vessel traffic in the Houston Ship Channel, resulting in significant vessel congestion.

Congestion in the Houston Ship Channel has grown from 39 inbound and outbound vessels on Friday, to about 43 this morning. More fog and reduced visibility is expected for periods this week, which could see the channel open and closed intermittently.

Houston Ship Channel is a key waterway for vessels going in and out of ports in the Houston area, including Houston, Galveston, Baytown and Texas City.
