The locally produced hydrogen will cater to the maritime and other sectors, HydePoint said. It will be produced at Karmsund Group’s service base.

The project partners aim to produce more than 3,000 mt/year of hydrogen based on 20 MW installed electrolysis capacity.

HydePoint’s system “integrates a barge system with onshore infrastructure, enabling modular and flexible deployment of hydrogen capacity,” it said. Hydrogen deliveries from the facility are set to begin in 2028.

Karmsund Hydrogen project is jointly owned by Norwegian Hydrogen, Sigma and Karmsund Group.

“The project partners are already in active dialogue with industrial and maritime customers, ensuring the production is tailored to real, local demand,” HydePoint said.
