HyFive to target bunker market with proposed Spanish e-methanol plant

Spanish startup HyFive plans to build a 100,000 mt/year e-methanol plant at the Port of Gijón in northern Spain.

The planned integrated facility will produce green hydrogen with on-site electrolysis and capture carbon dioxide through direct air capture to synthesise e-methanol, HyFive said.

HyFive has not disclosed a timeline for the project, but confirmed that the output is intended for the bunker market.

The company is planning to develop a total of six projects across the Iberian Peninsula and wider Europe, though it has not yet shared further details.
