ICS teams up with IRENA on green fuel transition
The International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) has partnered with the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) to support decarbonisation of the shipping industry and work towards adoption of fuels made with renewable energy.

The alliance will lay down a framework over the next two years, seeking to enable shipping firms represented by the ICS to work with IRENA members that count over 160 countries and territories.
Under the agreement the organisations will regularly exchange market information and data on the use of alternative fuels such as green hydrogen and ammonia.
To avoid developing countries being left behind in the energy transition, they stress green upskilling and technological devolution as key measures to build capacity and scale infrastructure in these countries.
“It is vital that the shipping sector continues to get closer to producers and consumers to facilitate the transition to zero emission fuels, and is a key part of the solution, not a blocker, to the zero-emission transition,” said ICS secretary general Guy Platten.
