IINO Lines secures charter for LPG dual-fuel vessel

Japanese tanker operator IINO Kaiun Kaisha (IINO Lines) has signed a time charter contract with energy and commodities trading group BGN for an LPG dual-fuel very large gas carrier (VLGC) newbuild.

The 90,000-cbm vessel will be capable of operating on both LPG and conventional marine fuels. It will be built by South Korea’s HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and is scheduled for delivery in late December 2029.

The vessel will become the fourth LPG dual-fuel vessel in IINO Lines’ fleet. The company has not disclosed where the new vessel will be deployed.

The global fleet of LPG-capable vessels currently comprises 179 ships, with another 160 scheduled for delivery by 2030. Of the existing fleet, 165 are dedicated LPG carriers, while the remaining 14 are capable of transporting both LPG and ammonia, according to classification society DNV.

The latest deal follows Dorian LPG’s order this month for three 90,000-cbm LPG dual-fuel VLGCs from South Korea’s Hanwha Ocean.
